More information

Murtalschnellstraße (S36) to Judenburg-West - into the town of Judenburg and at the traffic circle turn right in the direction of Oberweg, and always follow the provincial road in the direction of TÜPL Schmelz until you reach Alpengasthof Schmelz.
On trail 308/315 you head towards Winterleitenhütte and from there you also head to the first peak. Trail 315A leads you to the top of the Kreiskogel, from there it continues to the Scharfen Eck. From Scharfen Eck you continue to the highest of the three mountains the Zirbitzkogel (2396m).

You can go back via the "Schreiber Steig", through the Kesseltal past the large and small Winterleiten lake to the Winterleitenhütte or via the Sabathy area: past the Lindersee and the Linderhütte to the Sabathyhütte. From there, continue to the Winterleitenhütte or Schmelz.

If you prefer a shorter descent, hike from the Zirbitzkogel via the Schreibersteig back to the Winterleitenseen and the starting point Schmelz.
This tour is NOT considered "accessible by train and bus" because there is no regular connection.
There are plenty of parking possibilities at the Schmelz.
