Rosenkogel via Grünholzsteig

Tour 13b - 11.9km - 950hm - 5:30 hours

The Rosenkogel in the Murtal in Styria is a peak in the Seckau Alps that is extremely popular with hikers and snowshoe hikers. The ascent from St. Oswald, with more than 1000 meters in altitude, can be seen as a sporting challenge on the one hand and on the other hand this path is committed less frequently than the shorter ascent over the Roßbachgraben in the Gaal. The starting point is the small town of St. Oswald, which is harmoniously embedded in a softly formed landscape. The ascent via the Wenischgraben - there were several charcoal burners' huts here in the 15th century - is very pleasant, especially in summer, as the path mainly runs in the forest and the cooler temperatures and shade make the sometimes steep ascent very pleasant. Until the summer törl you are rather lonely on the road here. You can park at the Sommertörl and therefore this option is used by many hikers who make a shorter hike to the wooden chapel Maria Loretto or to the Rosenkogel.
