Hammer leak over lookout point

Tour 2b - 12.6 km - 710 m elevation gain - 04:30 hrs - medium distance tour

The hike from Fohnsdorf via the Sillweg lookout point to the Hammerleck - Hölzelkogel is a scenic tour in the local recreation area of Fohnsdorf. Tour corresponds to path no. 2b on site signs and in the regional hiking map.

The goal of this hike is an alpine pasture area with good views at approx. 1400 m above sea level, which is known to the local population as Hammerleck, or also as Hammerleck Meadow. The ascent from Fohnsdorf leads a short distance through the populated urban area and then you are already on forest roads and hiking trails. The newly marked and signposted path leads over the Sillweg observation tower, through well-tended forest areas, to the Hammerleck. Already during the ascent you have a wonderful view of the largest inner-alpine basin in Styria (Judenburg-Knittelfelder basin) and the Seetal Alps towering behind it, the Gleinalp and Stubalpe to the southern Limestone Alps. The Sillweg observation tower was built in 1909 and is a popular excursion and hiking destination in the region.
