Ulrich Church Külml

Anger

Patron Saint Ulrich

In contrast to the baroque Külml Castle, the former summer residence of the Pöllau Canons' Monastery, the Ulrichskirche am Külml was built on the hill of the "Kleines Kulm" = Külml/Kümerl, perhaps on the site of a medieval fortification, of which nothing has survived. Also if the church is said to date from the Gothic period, the current building is primarily characterized by the conversion from around 1715.

The three-bay nave with late-Baroque vaulted ceilings, similar to those of the parish church in Stubenberg, could only have gotten its current appearance around 1760 . The Ulrich bell from 1959 hangs in the small ridge turret. Behind the organ positive is the monumental painting of the Battle of Lechfeld near Augsburg, where St. Ulrich 955 appeared particularly effectively.

This picture is the largest work of the local artist Peter Stübinger. Today's church furnishings are a collection of set pieces that were originally created for other churches, as the partially preserved early Baroque ornaments show. In the middle of the high altar is the statue of St. Ulrich, flanked by Sebastian and Rochus and crowned by Archangel Michael.

The left side altar shows the portrait of Theresia in front of Maria with the baby Jesus, flanked by the statues Isidore and Florian, the right side altar shows the portrait of Mary with the baby Jesus, surrounded by Franz Xaver and Joachim. The organ from around 1680 comes from the Nothelferkirche in Anger.
