Kalwang, in the middle of the Eisenerz and Seckau Alps, offers the ideal starting point for numerous hiking possibilities: From the tranquil circular hiking trail past the pilgrimage church of St. Sebastian to alpine tours to the summits of the Zeiritzkampel or the Wildfeld, which lie at over 2,000 m. The long-distance hiking trail of the region, the Iron Trail, also leads through Kalwang.
At the foot of the Schober Pass, Kalwang lies picturesquely against the grandiose backdrop of the surrounding mountains. The mountains, but above all mining, have always been of great importance here. Copper was mined in the mines of "Teichen". Iron was processed in the hammer mills of the village. The former wealth can still be seen today in the imposing hammer masters' houses. The former stud farm of the Ritter von Gutmann, which dates back to this time, has been revitalised and now offers the perfect venue for concerts, weddings, seminars and much more as the "Kulturzentrum Fohlenhof".
In addition to the strongly rooted folk culture, Kalwang is also an ideal starting point for numerous excursions to the most beautiful regions of Styria. In less than an hour you can reach the beautiful provincial capital Graz, Admont Abbey with the largest library hall in the world or the "Red Bull Ring". In the immediate vicinity are the recreational lake in Wald am Schoberpass as well as the "Alpenbad" and the "Wilden Berg" in Mautern.
